You Mean the World

Advocacy Campaign, Storytelling & Community Engagement Initiative

PROJECT OVERVIEW

In partnership with Re Cleveland and Building Hope in the City, studio Chartreuse helped develop You Mean the World, a community-centered advocacy campaign designed to celebrate the contributions of refugees and immigrants throughout Northeast Ohio while encouraging dialogue, understanding, and inclusion.

Created in response to a political climate that often challenged the welcoming nature of immigrant and refugee communities, the campaign sought to amplify personal stories of resilience, perseverance, and success. Rather than focusing on statistics or policy, the initiative centered on people—their journeys, experiences, challenges, and the meaningful ways they contribute to the cultural and economic fabric of our region.

At the heart of the campaign were a series of compelling visual and written narratives featuring individuals from around the globe who now call Northeast Ohio home. Through powerful interviews, thoughtful storytelling, and a stunning photography series by photographer Sharon Hughes, the project highlighted stories of courage, hardship, achievement, entrepreneurship, family, and community impact.

studio Chartreuse developed the campaign identity, messaging framework, exhibition graphics, marketing materials, and supporting design assets that helped bring these stories to life across multiple platforms. What began as a public awareness campaign quickly evolved into something much larger—a traveling photography exhibition, educational programming, community conversations, public lectures, and eventually a published book documenting the stories and imagery from the project.

Perhaps most importantly, the campaign introduced a simple but powerful message: You Mean the World. The phrase became both the title of the initiative and a broader statement about the values of welcome, belonging, and inclusion that continue to define communities across Northeast Ohio.

Today, the project serves as a lasting reminder that diverse voices, experiences, and perspectives strengthen our region and enrich the communities we share.

Through strategic storytelling, thoughtful design, and community-centered collaboration, studio Chartreuse helped transform a local awareness initiative into a lasting movement that continues to inspire conversations about belonging, inclusion, and the power of shared human experiences.
